In recent months, cases of dog theft have been rising across the UK and particularly in Avon and Somerset.
Nottinghamshire Police have recently become the first UK force to appoint a dedicated officer to tackle dog theft.
Lib Dem Police and Crime Commissioner candidate Heather Shearer believes Avon and Somerset police should do the same. Heather said: "Dog theft is an incredibly cruel and heartbreaking crime. Pets mean so much to us, and the pandemic has shown how positive they can be for our mental health. Avon and Somerset Police could make a real positive change by dedicating an officer to investigating these crimes."
